Just what is Leaky Gut?
It’s not as nasty as you think.
Leaky Gut is when the lining of the small intestines becomes damaged with teeny tiny microscopic openings. Those openings allow undigested food particles, toxins, and bacteria to “leak” from the intestines into the blood stream.
Here’s the scoop.
Our intestinal wall is supposed to be semi-permeable. We absorb nutrients from the food we eat through the tight junctions in our intestinal wall. Think of the tight junctions like bouncers at a bar, they guard and protect.
During normal digestion, the tight junctions stay closed and force all food particles to be screened before they ‘pass through’ and enter the blood stream.. Good micro-nutrients make it through, bad stay out.
But those tight junctions can become weak and open up. And when they do, un-screened particles “leak” through the intestinal wall and make their way into the blood stream. The result?
Plain and simple.
what happens when particles enter the bloodstream?
The body’s first reaction is to fight. Yay, body! Strange particles have entered in the blood stream and our body thinks it’s under attack. The immune system kicks in and alerts other organs that something is wrong.
The body is at war . . . with itself.
It’s now believed that all autoimmune diseases start from Leaky Gut. “Auto” coming from the Latin derivative meaning “self,” in case you didn’t take Latin.
The body is fighting itself and symptoms become real health issues.
Leaky Gut starting to make sense now?
what do symptoms look like
Painful conditions we live with.
Digestive issues: stomach pain, gas, bloating, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
Mental and emotional imbalance: anxiety, depression, anger, rage (surprised to see this, aren’t you?) Learn More on The Leaky Gut Anxiety-Depression Connection →
Skin issues: eczema, psoriasis, acne, rosacea, rashes, hives, dandruff (it’s actually believed that all skin issues start in the gut)
Autoimmune diseases: Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s, Lupus, Chronic fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid arthritis
Brain fog, ADD
Got it. Now what causes it?
We knew that’s what you were thinking.
Get ready for this:
antibiotics, sugar, dairy, glutens, prescription drugs, NSAID’s like Advil and Motrin, pesticides, processed food, and regretfully, alcohol… yeah, that one’s tough to read..
The awesome news is that Leaky Gut is repairable.
Really, it is.
We know it cuz we’ve lived it.
Seal the leaks in your gut and wonderful changes will happen in your body.
